Stumble Lesson #1: Submit while it’s Fresh

During our reviews of the campaigns posted by our members, we noticed that some people put their main web site (http://www.example.com) to be stumbled.

THIS IS NOT GOOD.

When you are doing a campaign, it is better to submit a specific page of your website.

So, instead of example.com, you submit example.com/2008/02/my-post-title/

Why? Because StumbleUpon loves fresh content…

For maximum results, you need to submit your URL to StumbleUdon within 15 minutes  after it is submitted to StumbleUpon.

So, while your content is fresh, it receives some stumbles from StumbleUdon to kick it off. This indicates that your content is popular, thus StumbleUpon will show your page to other stumblers and if they like it, your page will receive natural stumbles. StumbleUdon will just give you the initial boost of stumbles to reach that initial audience — the rest depends on the quality of your content.

It is useless to order more stumbles for the same URL that has been there (in the StumbleUpon system) for one week/months/years. Just imagine this scenario:
1 January — URL submitted to StumbleUpon
2 January - 10 February — URL just sit there, without receiving any stumbles
11 February — URL got 10 stumbles from StumbleUdon

So, after one month, it suddenly receives 10 stumbles in one day.
Very suspicious isn’t it.

You will get much better results if you create a new page/post in your website/blog, submit the URL of the new page/post to StumbleUpon, and submit to StumbleUdon within 15 minutes.

    It’s pretty easy to confirm it. Look at your campaign, and when it says, say, 10 left, and you had 15 points in - check to see if there are 5 stumbles there. Easy as pie.

    johny, it is technically possible to create a report containing list of accounts that have stumbled your page. But to protect our members’ privacy we have chosen not to do this. Otherwise it’d be very easy for SU to ban all of our members :(
